It’s been a while since we’ve had some cool news regarding casting for Joss Whedon’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron – the upcoming sequel to one of the largest grossing films of all time. However, today we’re hearing that both Whedon and Marvel have their eyes on a young up and coming actress in Elizabeth Olsen.
Two new characters that will be introduced in the Age of Ultron will be the brother/sister duo of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and while we still don’t know who is going to be playing Quicksilver, we now have an idea of who’s playing the character’s sister. According to a source identified by Bleeding Cool, Oscar nominated actress Saoirse Ronan (Hanna, The Lovely Bones) turned down the role which sent Whedon and Marvel back to to the drawing board.
Some changes will be made to the character of the Scarlet Witch, who’s movie rights are owned by Marvel Studios but is also owned by 20th Century Fox. Some changes that will be made is that the Witch will not be the daughter of Magneto or a mutant in general. One thing about all of Marvel’s films is that they have shied away – rather incredibly – from using the term “mutant”.
Elizabeth Olsen burst on the scene in 2011 with the hit indie film Martha Marcy May Marlene and Silent House. She’s co-starring in next summer’s blockbuster film Godzilla and Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake.
I’ll be sure to keep everyone updated.
