‘Mission: Impossible 5’ gets a director

Officially official, Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 5 finally has a confirmed director in Christopher McQuarrie.  The director last worked with Tom Cruise on the action flick Jack Reacher, which was a modest success.

The director confirmed the hiring via his Twitter account stating “Mission: Accepted”.

McQuarrie also wrote the script to Valkyrie, which Cruise also starred in and he also adapted the novel “All You Need Is Kill” for the upcoming Cruise film Edge of Tomorrow.  It was long thought that Cruise wanted Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol director Brad Bird to return for the fifth installment in the franchise, but with Bird directing the upcoming film Tomorrowland it was going to be a rough go of it.

Mission: Impossible 5 will only be McQuarrie’s third directing effort behind Jack Reacher and Way of the Gun.  McQuarrie might be best known for writing Brian Singer’s screenplay for The Usual Suspects.
