’12 Years A Slave’ gets first trailer

Director Steve McQueen’s latest dive into controversial subject matter, the upcoming film 12 Years A Slave, has received its first proper trailer.  The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as free black man in pre-Civil War U.S. when he is abducted and sold into slavery.  The man that buys him, played by Michael Fassbender, has to come to grips with the fact that he has purchased a man that is just as contingent as he is.

Fassbender and McQueen last worked together two years ago on the controversial film Shame, which received a NC-17 rating from the MPAA over the gratuitous showing of Fassbender’s penis.   Still, the film was pretty good and McQueen has gone back to the actors he knows best.

The film also stars Brad Pitt, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamatti, Paul Dano, and Sarah Paulson.
