‘The Counselor’ gets strange first trailer

Ridley Scott’s The Counselor has a cast that’s to die for; Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Brad Pitt, and Cameron Diaz – just to name a few.  However, the film’s first trailer is rather odd but telling.

The film’s screenplay is an original screenplay that was written by the world famous author Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men).  If that doesn’t screen “OSCAR BAIT”, I don’t know what does.

The plot revolves around a lawyer who gets caught up in the drug trafficking trade.  Here’s the official plot synopsis for the film;

It is the story of a lawyer, the Counselor, a man who is so seduced by the desire to get rich, to impress his fiancee Laura, that he becomes involved in a drug-smuggling venture that quickly takes him way out of his depth. His contacts in this are the mysterious and probably corrupt Reiner and the seductive Malkina, so exotic her pets of choice are two cheetahs. As the action crosses the Mexican border, things become darker, more violent and more sexually disturbing than the Counselor has ever imagined.

Angelina Jolie was originally in talks to play the role of Malkina but dropped out and was replaced by Cameron Diaz.   The Counselor is out on October 25, the start of Oscar season.
