Yesterday was a sad day in Hollywood as it was announced that former The Sopranos star James Gandolfini died of a heart attack while in Italy.  He was 51.

Gandolfini was a magnificent actor who often portrayed menacing characters on screen.  From Tony Soprano to True Romance to The Last Castle, whatever film Gandolfini was in his part was sure to be spot on.

While Gandolfini reportedly died of a heart attack, no official cause of death will be determined until some time in the near future.  Deadline originally reported that the actor was in Italy for unknown reasons at the time of his passing while TMZ states that he was in Italy to celebrate the 59th Taormina Film Festival in Sicily.

Gandolfini appeared to be just getting started with the second half of his career after The Sopranos, and now he’s gone too soon.  Rest in peace.
