You’ll either hate this news or love it, as sources close to production on The Avengers 2 state that Joss Whedon is seriously considering casting Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the superhero Quicksilver in the upcoming sequel.
The only reason I say you’ll either love it or hate it is because both Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox own the movie rights to the character. While that’s great and all, X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer has already confirmed that Evan Peters (American Horror Story), who ironically also played a role in Kick-Ass, will be playing the Quicksilver character in his film. Days of Future Past comes out a full year before The Avengers 2, and while movies have always cast different actors as the same characters in the same universe – these two movies will be releasing in a time frame where they’ll both be fresh in our minds.
Evan Peters is a fine choice for the character but Aaron Taylor-Johnson is a much more refined actor and obviously a bigger draw for the character. The Wrap points out that no contract has been signed yet, Taylor-Johnson is the frontrunner and should get a contract soon. He’ll join Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, and Samuel L. Jackson in an already star-studded cast.
The Avengers 2 is due out in 2015.
