Quicksilver & The Scarlet Witch confirmed for ‘The Avengers 2’

Posted: May 2, 2013 in Movies

Last week The Avengers director Joss Whedon teased that his The Avengers 2 script contained two of his famous Marvel characters – a brother and sister duo.  Well, that led to a week of speculation – and as there are only a limited number of “brother and sister” acts in the Marvel universe – the internet logically pointed to Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.   Quicksilver’s movie rights are held by both Marvel and 20th Century Fox, you might remember those rights reverted back to Marvel last year after Fox let the rights slip after they failed to get a Daredevil film off the ground.

According to some Entertainment Weekly detective work, it looks like the internet was spot on.  EW asked Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, so neither confirmed nor denied the news.

“I’m not confirming or denying. The draft could change six months from now.”

While The Avengers 2 is still a ways off (2015…if everything stays status quo) it’s exciting to hear some potential character news.  It’s also feasible to assume that not all of the original Avenger characters will be returning for the sequel.   Robert Downey Jr.’s Marvel contract is up but he’s currently negotiating for his return in The Avengers 2.

If you’ve seen (or do see) Iron Man 3 in the next few days, you’re going to notice the ending presents a bit of unique problem Joss Whedon is going to have with The Avengers 2.  It will be interesting to see if a new character emerges between now and The Avengers 2 that can take Tony Stark’s place.
