The weekend box office looks a lot like last weekend’s box office with Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful having enough wizardry power to stay as the number one film in all the land. Seriously though, Disney’s hit blockbuster pulled in $42.2M this weekend, which isn’t nearly as much as it made last weekend but it’s still more than twice as much as the number two film made at the cinema. The film has made $145M in two weeks, well on its way to making back the $215M it cost Disney to make.
Second at the box office this weekend was Halle Berry’s thriller The Call, which pulled in $17.1M – which is surprising mainly because the film looks like a second rate crime-thriller-revenge-flick. I guess Halle Berry still has some pull though, which is good to know.
Third this weekend was the other new release, Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey’s magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, which only managed to pull in $10.3M. Rather incredible is the fact that these two A-list comedians couldn’t manage to put together a film, which only cost $30M, something that made more money.
Rounding out the top five this weekend was Jack the Giant Slayer and the Mellisa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief. The film’s made $6.2M and $4.5M respectively.
