Weekend box office – ‘Warm Bodies’ is officially official

Posted: February 4, 2013 in Movies

This past weekend saw audiences flock to see what some are dubbing the “new Twilight” with Warm Bodies.  However, if you read my review of the film you’ll quickly understand how that’s not the case at all.  Sure, it’s a film about a zombie falling in love with a human but it’s so much more than that as well.  It never really tries too hard to be Twilight or even the next best thing.  It’s simply a refreshing take on an age old genre.

The film brought in nearly $20M this weekend, which is a disappointing number for February but it’s still more than double what the next highest grossing film brought in this weekend.

Number two at the box office was the disappointing Jeremy Renner supernatural action film, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.  The film only managed to bring in $9M.  In two weeks the movie as only made $34M and had a budget of $50M.  It will eventually reach that number but not for a while.

The third highest grossing film this weekend was the hit Silver Linings Playbook, which continues to bring in good numbers despite being in theaters for nearly three months.  The film brought in $8M and has totaled $80M so far.  The film only cost $21M to make.  Talk about making a profit.

Rounding out the top five were two Jessica Chastain films; Mama and Zero Dark Thirty.  The films made $6M and $5M respectively.

Here’s the full top 10:

*Numbers in millions* (TOTAL)
