We’re thick and heavy into the Christmas list now delving into the top 10 like there’s no tomorrow.  Making appearances and such is Miracle on 34th Street, the 1994 version with Richard Attenborough and Elizabeth Perkins.  I understand that the original film holds a special place in everyone’s heart but there’s something about early 90’s remake that hits a chord with me.

Attenborough as Kris Kringle/Santa Claus is about as spot on as you get.  The movie revolves around a little girl believing that a mall Santa is the real deal and how she teaches a community, really a nation, how believing in something is better than believing in nothing at all.  Elizabeth Perkins really made her childhood acting career off this film and it turns out to be a classic.  Attenborough, before this film, had a pretty good career stretching all the way back to the 60’s, but Miracle on 34th Street really turned his world upside down.

Miracle on 34th Street is meant to teach values of belief and sometimes comes off as campy and corny but there’s magic in the film as well.  If there’s ever a film you take in during the holidays, please let it be this one.
