There are certain movies from your childhood that you just have to watch during the holidays, for some people it’s A Charlie Brown Christmas or perhaps even for you older folks It’s a Wonderful Life, for me it’s Home Alone & Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

The Macaulay Culkin sequel is a staple of Christmas viewing in my house every year and for good reason.  Culkin will always be a cult hero to me as he’s probably the one child actor who managed to peak his career at the age of 10 years old.  It makes no difference however as he managed to star in two of the greatest Christmas movies of all time.  While Home Alone 2 is not as magical as its predecessor it’s still a great piece of entertainment during the holiday season.

Culkin reprises his roles as the outcast Kevin McCallister as his family takes a trip to New York City, but instead of being left at home by himself Kevin gets lost in the city that never sleeps.  One thing that makes the movie such a yearly staple is that Culkin has just as much fun in this sequel as he did in the original.  Another thing that makes the sequel mandatory viewing is the return of bad guys Marv and Harry, the titular bad guys played by Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci.  The traps that Kevin comes up with in an old abandoned house make things even better all the while Kevin learns the true meaning of Christmas when he encounters a homeless bird lady and the owner of a large toy store.

If there’s one film you can’t miss this holiday season make sure it’s Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
