Spider-Man fans groaned last year when Sony announced they would be rebooting the web-slinger franchise just a couple of years after Spider-Man 3 was released.  However, Marc Webb’s reboot sequence was very well received this past summer with The Amazing Spider-Man and with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as your character anchors, it was only natural that production would begin right away on a sequel.

We’ve gotten confirmation that Jamie Foxx will be playing the villain Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and now we’ve got confirmation on the actor who will be playing Peter Parker’s (Garfield) best friend, Harry Osborn.  Dane Dehaan, who’s only real claim to fame was the surprising hit super-hero film Chronicle, will be playing the millionaire heir and future nemesis to Parker.   The announcement came from the film’s director, Marc Webb, himself in a tweet.

Dehaan is an interesting choice because he’s not overly attractive.  He’s got a homely look and is a bit frail.  With Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films, Harry was played by James Franco, who was an attractive young actor but also had the build of playing a potential villain for Spider-Man.  Dehaan turned in a fine performance in Chronicle, the found footage film, so it’s a promising casting move and pretty much cements Dehaan as an “up-and-comer” in Hollywood.

With all the major characters filled out, we should start to see filming ramp up on the sequel soon.
