‘X-Men: First Class’ sequel to be officially titled ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’

And the fanboys erupt with excitement *haaaaaaa**haaaaaa*.

X-Men: First Class producer Bryan Singer recently revealed the official title of the upcoming X-Men sequel as “X-Men: Days of Future Past“.  The title comes from a series of X-Men comics written in the early 80’s (1981 to be exact) of the same name.  The revelation came during an IGN interview with the producer who stated;

“It’s called Days of Future Past.”

“It deals with aspects of that comic, but also some very new things.”

The Days of Future Past storyline dealt with the X-Men being involved in two separate timelines where, in an alternate future, mutants are hunted by giant robots called “Sentinels” after the assassination of a prominent U.S. Senator, Robert Kelly.  X-Men member Kitty Pryde must go back in time to warn the original X-Men members of what the future holds.  It’s really a fantastic storyline and being introduced to Sentinels for the first time should be pretty badass…if done right.  If Singer sticks to the comic book story, the X-Men should come up against Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in some shape or form.  The original Brotherhood was founded by Magneto and included Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Toad, and Mastermind.  Mystique later formed her own Brotherhood made up of Pyro, the Blob, Avalanche, Destiny, and Rogue.  It will be interesting to see how Singer blends the two Brotherhoods to form one or if he actually tells the story of both.  Or Singer could make up a completely new Brotherhood to fight the X-Men.

Another interesting tidbit to keep your eyes on is that Ellen Page originally played Kitty Pryde in X-Men: The Last Stand.  It would be pretty awesome if Page reprises her role as Pryde for this new X-Men film.

I’ll keep you posted.
