Another day, another superhero property gets some rebooting news. This time it’s not Warner Bros. talking about rebooting the Batman franchise before the biggest superhero film in existence is released. Nope, this time it’s FOX and Marvel talking rebooting the Fantastic Four franchise.
According to a Deadline report FOX has tapped Chronicle director Josh Trank to helm the reboot of the famous Marvel franchise nearly 10 years after the first FF film made it’s way to the big screen. Chronicle was a sleeper hit with FOX and Trank showed his flare for dramatic action with the found-footage film.
Supposedly FOX is rebooting the film on a fast track (it’s set to start filming later this year) because if they don’t keep making Fantastic Four films, they will lose the movie rights to the characters – which Marvel Studios would love. Fantastic Four is in the same boat as Dare Devil in which FOX is trying to reboot but their new Dare Devil movie lost its director in David Slade abandoning the project.
It will be interesting to see who Trank gets to play the four superheroes as I would venture to think FOX is going to want him to tell an origins story of sorts.
I’ll keep you all posted on further casting news.
