Weekend Box Office – ‘Snow White’ Bumps ‘MIB3’

Posted: June 3, 2012 in Movies

Last weekend was Will Smith’s time to shine at the box office with Men in Black 3, this weekend it’s Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart’s  with their gritty portrayal of a classic fairy tale in Snow What and the Huntsman.

The Grimm story, directed by first timer Rupert Sanders, is a dark and gritty re-telling starring Theron as the evil witch and Stewart as Snow White.  While I haven’t seen the film yet I’ve heard it’s a visual spectacle with a poor story.  Either way, enough people went to see the film, making $56M, allowing it to bump Men in Black 3 from the top spot.

Men in Black 3 still managed to rake in $29M in the number two spot this weekend, falling from the top spot, but keeping respectable numbers.  Just another notch in Will Smith’s belt in movies he’s starred in that have made over $100M.

The number three film this past weekend was The Avengers, who’s impressive run has been slowed immensely after their month long dominance at the box office.  The movie managed to pull in $20M in its fifth week on the charts bringing its five week domestic total to $552M.

The fourth and fifth films this past weekend was the disappointing Battleship and The Dictator which were only separated by $100K, with $4.8M and $4.7M respectively.

*Just a note, this is the first weekend that The Hunger Games did not register in the top 10.
