Box Office Numbers – Crap Ass Movies Reign Supreme

Posted: April 29, 2012 in Movies

This weekend’s box office numbers are in and it looks like some shitty movies are atop the charts once again.  Listen, I don’t blame you for going to see a crap movie in the weeks leading up to the start of the summer blockbuster movie season but at least diversify yourself in your crap ass movie watching.  There’s no reason, ever, for Think Like A Man to be atop the box office charts two weeks in a row.  None.  Shame on you if you’ve seen that movie more than once.  The reigning champ made $18M this weekend in the last true weekend that we’ll have without some movie that cost $250M to make gracing the charts.

The Pirates! Band of Misfits came in second this weekend raking in a disappointing $11.4M after costing nearly $60M to make.  It’s from the guys who brought us the Wallace and Gromit franchise and it’s stop-motion animation, which isn’t everyone’s thing, so…yea.  The third movie this weekend was Zac Efron’s The Lucky One reeling in $11.3M.  The fourth and fifth movies this weekend were The Hunger Games and The Five Year Engagement, making $11.2M and $11.1M respectively.

As a side note – The Hunger Games is quickly approaching $400M domestically which would be a fantastic feat for a film released in March.

Side note 2 – New films this weekend didn’t fare very well; both Jason Statham’s action title Safe and the Edgar Allen Poe thriller The Raven both debuted outside the top five, both failing to crack $8M.

Here is the full charts…
