Box Office Numbers – ‘The Hunger Games’ Wins Again

Posted: April 15, 2012 in Movies

Another weekend another number one spot for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games.  The critically acclaimed adaptation has now been atop the box office for four weeks in a row.  Now, let’s be on the real here…I don’t expect the movie to be atop the charts next weekend with Zac Efron’s The Lucky Ones hits theaters (and you know every female with a period will be seeing that one!).  Still though, four weeks atop the charts is nothing to sneeze at for a spring film.   Games’ made a cool $21.5M at the box office this weekend to maintain its stranglehold on the theaters this weekend.

The ridiculously stupid (oxymoron) The Three Stooges film held down the number two position making $17.1M.  Seriously, though, who saw that movie this weekend?  Stand up so I can slap you.  The three spot belonged to the sci-fi horror cult classic The Cabin in the Woods, which is carrying a 90%+ on Rotten Tomatoes.  It made nearly $15M.  The fourth and fifth biggest money makers this weekend were Titanic 3D and American Reunion with $12M and $10.7M respectively.

As a side note the Guy Pearce action-thriller Lockout debuted in the #9 spot which is maddeningly disappointing as Guy Pearce is one of Hollywood’s good guys.
