Box Office Numbers – Katniss Wins Again

Posted: April 2, 2012 in Movies

This past weekend at the box office saw Katniss, Peeta, and Gale defeating Titans and fairy tales in its second week at the cinema to the tune of $200 million plus total.

Talk about making money.

The Hunger Games, in just its second weekend, passed the $200M mark becoming just the fifth movie in history to total more than $200M in just eight days.  To be fair to the other movies out this weekend, The Hunger Games’ totals fell nearly 60% from $155M to just $61M.  The second highest grossing film this weekend was Wrath of the Titans which actually had an impressive showing going up against Games, bringing in over $34M.  The fairy tale adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Mirror Mirror, came in third this weekend to a disappointing $19M.  Not even Julia Roberts could have saved that one.

The fourth and fifth highest grossing titles this past weekend were 21 Jump Street and the still impressive Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, bringing in $15M and $8M respectively.
