Weekend Box Office – ‘John Carter’ Posts Dismal Numbers

Posted: March 11, 2012 in Movies

I honestly did not expect Disney’s John Carter to open to such lackluster results.  Truly I thought this movie was destined to be the first blockbuster of the of the year.  After seeing the film this weekend I’m still shaking my head at the meager $30 million the movie made opening.  I’ll admit people don’t know who Taylor Kitsch is…but they should.  The Friday Night Lights star is not going to win an Oscar anytime soon but he’s the next big action star and he’s proving it with Disney’s favor behind him.  You’ll next see him as the true star of the upcoming summer film Battleship.  When you are the focal point of two of the year’s biggest action films, you can say you’ve made a name for yourself in Hollywood.  John Carter is what you would describe as an “epic” and it’s certainly better than Disney’s last two foray’s into the PG-13 film genre with Prince of Persia and The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  I mean, not to go all rant-ty on you but the damn film came in second place to the fucking Lorax film that is about as preachy and political as a animated film can get.  It just doesn’t make sense.

I’m so dumbfounded by these numbers I’m just going to go straight into the top 10…no recap needed…
