The CW has a reputation of being the network where “teen-angst” knows no bounds. It what used to known as the “WB” network and housed shows such as 7th Heaven, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Smallville – the network now shows abominations known as The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, The Secret Circle, and Ringer. Where has all the quality gone?
Since I don’t ever EVER watch anything that the CW has to offer, apparently the network is where TV shows of yesteryear go to burn in hell, once-popular TV actors go to live in mediocrity, and the entire network things they’re a bunch of hipsters. So it’s no surprise what-so-ever that the CW network has green lit a television series revolving around the DC Comics character, The Green Arrow. As if these motherfuckers hadn’t butchered Superman’s legacy enough?
Thom Sherman, head of development for CW, called the show “very provocative and sophisticated and edgy” and “not as comic book-y as Smallville or other [superhero projects] from other networks.” Wait, what? Not as “comic book-y”? Then why the fuck are you creating a television show about a B-rate superhero? Who the hell does the CW thing they are?
Here’s the scoop, and you’ll love this; apparently the show will depict The Green Arrow as a billionaire “playboy” industrialist who uses archery, martial arts, and elaborate gadgets to fight crime. Holy shit, is that premise real? Did they really break ground with that concept! A guy with buku money, uses that money to fight crime? Who would have thought?
Like the revolving door that the CW is, they’ve cast main stay Stephen Amell (Vampire Diaries, 90210 – both CW abominations) as the show’s main character. Katie Cassidy (Gossip Girl, Melrose Place, Supernatural) will be playing the role of “Dinah ‘Laurel’ Lance” or as the comic book world likely knows her as, Black Canary. Sussana Thompson will play the role of “Moria Queen” the mother of “Oliver Queen/The Green Arrow”. David Nutter is directing the show’s pilot episode with Greg Berlanti producing (he also produced the similar premise The Green Lantern last year).
Why can’t this network just die off already, damnit.
