According to a recent report over at Deadline CBS has apparently has given the greenlight to Louis C.K. and former Seinfeld writer Spike Ferensten for their own pilot.
I’ve never been the biggest Louis C.K. fan out there but I won’t deny that his show on FX was genuinely funny. I’m not sure how a mainstream show on a basic cable channel will do with someone as raunchy as C.K. Getting someone like Ferensten to write for you though has to be a genius move. To clarify though C.K. will not be starring in the pilot but rather co-scripting with Ferensten.
CBS’ track record for comedies has been hit or miss in the past couple of years. They first hit it out of the park with Everyone Loves Raymond and The King of Queens, then came My Wife and Kids and Two and a Half Men. How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory are CBS’ two mainstays as far as comedy goes, and relatively speaking, the two of them are pretty tame.
Hopefully the program directors over there at CBS let Louis have full control over what gets written into a script and they don’t try to influence his creativity. I guess we’ll see.
Oh yea, before you go, this is what CBS is currently promoting for comedy these days….dear god.
