In today’s most unsurprising news (Rick Santorum withstanding) HBO announced that their critically acclaimed fantasy adaptation Game of Thrones has been green lit for a third season. Really though, are you surprised?
The announcement comes merely two episodes into the show’s second season and makes the announcement even more news worthy. According to a report the second season’s premiere two weeks ago amassed over 8.3 million viewers and is on track to surpass the 9.6 million viewers mark set by the show’s first season.
“Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season – and then surpassed them,” said Lombardo. “We are thrilled by all the viewer and media support we’ve received for the series, and can’t wait to see what Dan and David have in store for next season.”
The second season of the show is following the timeline of George RR Martin’s second book “A Clash of Kings” while the show’s third season will only tackle the first half of the third book “A Storm of Swords“. Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9pm EST on HBO.
Raise your hand if you’re excited!
